Steve Keyser lives in Boise with Margie, his wife of 47 years, and their newly adopted son. They enjoy pets and all their wonderful neighbors. Every day they are grateful to live in Idaho.
They came here over five years ago with an Idaho mentality and values, and enjoy working with Idahoans to help maintain all of the goodness of Idaho.
Steve and Margie raised two boys and two girls into successful adulthood and now have seven grandchildren. He is a retired police officer and she a retired school psychologist.
They both enjoy exercise, reading, time with family and friends, and helping people in need. Many members of their respective families have served in the military and law enforcement. They grew up in politically conservative families, and remain conservative themselves.
Steve and his brother were born in South Los Angeles in a blended neighborhood, and were raised by a single mom who worked hard, first for the Air Force and then in the aerospace industry private sector, to provide for her close-knit family of three.
On many occasions while growing up, his mom talked about how desperate she felt when his brother was a baby and she found out she was pregnant with Steve. She so badly wanted to not be pregnant.
She also talked about her struggles with addiction and often begged Steve to make a sincere promise to never try drugs. He made the promise and kept it.
Many raw and real life experiences such as these drive his passion for conservative values: pro-life, helping struggling moms and fatherless kids, helping kids to resist drugs and to understand the immense value of our U.S and Idaho Constitutions.
For example, Steve’s passion for the 2nd Amendment is partly driven by being a worried ten year old in South L.A. during the first L.A. riots (1965) when family members carried guns to protect themselves driving on streets crowded with rioters and were able to prevent crimes without anyone getting hurt.
During the next major L.A. riot (1992) Steve was a police officer coordinating with the National Guard and the U.S. Army in their response to the city to help restore peace. Many private citizens prevented crimes by the use of their 2nd Amendment right.
Steve saw numerous examples throughout his twenty-three year career in which citizens were able to stop crime or prevent it. Such success stories were rarely emphasized in the media.
Steve worked varied and interesting assignments and promoted through the ranks, finishing his career as a top-ranking lieutenant in charge of a new, state-of-the-art training facility and the Tactics Training Section, overseeing training for new recruits and tenured officers in tactics, shooting and high-speed driving.
For the past five years in Boise, Steve has been participating in helping the poor, joining with church benevolence efforts, assisting with the food pantry, volunteering at a medical clinic and volunteering with the Idaho Agency for Aging, encouraging grandparents who are fostering their grandchildren.
Steve has been giving public testimony at the Idaho State Legislature where he developed a great rapport with many state legislators, having discussions with them on the issues and getting positive feedback regarding his testimony.
Steve Keyser has been a registered Republican and supporter of conservative values and candidates for over forty years.
Steve is a good listener, remains polite, respects differing views, but stands strong on his principles and is well prepared to go to work for the Idaho citizens.
